How to get involved:
AGC welcomes volunteers and offers many levels of involvement. Volunteers can chicken-sit during breaks in the school year, host field trips, plan a book drive at the office, or translate a document into Spanish. Check out the Volunteer Page for more ideas!
Composting in school cafeterias
Connecticut College’s composting program has six student positions open throughout the year. Students are paid through the Federal Work Study Program and collect food scraps from places around campus and depositing them in special containers.
Composting- especially student-led composting- is becoming more common in United States universities. Younger students are also participating: Portland Public Schools is evaluating a pilot program conducted at three schools.
iEARN
Finding Solutions to Hunger Project
In the iEARN Finding Solutions to Hunger Project, participants globally research and discuss the root causes of hunger, poverty and inequality in the world and take meaningful actions to help create a more just and sustainable world. Since 1988, iEARN has asked all participants to address the question, “How will this project improve the quality of life on the planet?” This question is the glue that holds our network together, and it’s a question that guides us as we develop programs and share resources with like-minded partners around the world.

Earth Amplified’s side project, SOS Juice, trains low-income youth and formerly incarcerated individuals in urban agriculture and nutrition. SOS stands for “System out of our System” and occurs monthly, with fresh juice, health and nutrition presentations, and performances.
