About This Issue...

About this issue…

The tsunami is the focus of this issue.  KIDS is concerned not only with the immediate aftereffects of this tragic event, but with its long-term implications..

Rabbi Michael Lerner on a recent call-in radio show, was asked “Where was God during the tsunami?” Rabbi Lerner asks instead “Where was humanity?”.

Oxfam America expresses concern not only about those who were directly affected by the tsunami, but about funding for other emergencies that exist around the world. Will all the money pledged actually be given? Will governments divert money away from needed projects into areas devastated by the tsunami?

Linda Starr describes what schools around the country did to help the victims of the tsunami. Her article also raises questions about the other disasters that occur every day but don’t get media attention.

Noreen Springstead of WHY  shows how we move beyond emergency feeding. WHY is involved in working with thousands of small grassroots organizations that are changing people’s lives while at the same time meeting their immediate food needs.

Enjoy!
