Fall 2005, Volume 10 Number 3
About This Issue...
Jen
Chapin returns to this publication to relate the effects that growing up
with hunger had on her life. It is not what you might expect!
Are you aware the U.S. military has “free” access to our youth?
Josh Golin outlines how the military has adopted corporate
marketing techniques to meet the increased demand for
troops.
In our last issue (Summer 2005), Carol Gose Devine of The Caedmon
School explained why we must teach about social justice issues in the
classroom. Laura Lampman and Greg Minahan of Caedmon detail the school’s
“Peace Circle” curriculum.
Ava McCall writes about actions teachers and students can take in
response to Hurricane Katrina. She suggests web sites that aid in
discussing appropriate responses to natural disasters.
As some of you are aware, the last issue of the year (and this is
it!) is when we come to you for your financial support.
Please do not view this as a commercial break, but as an
opportunity for you to renew your support of KIDS or become a first time
participant.
This marks the second time that an innovative program, Project
Spira, has participated in the World Affairs Challenge. Whitney Shinkle
is our guide and introduces us to the process the participants
underwent.
Take a moment and see what fun we had at our 11th Anniversary
Concert.
We wish you a very happy holiday season and look forward to
“meeting” you again in the new year.
Enjoy,
